Service-learning with Good Deeds International provides the perfect platform upon which I can develop my skills while helping people. Personally, this experience has definitely taught me of how little effort can actually make big changes to those less fortunate in our society."

In order for the social justice and human rights industries to combat the increase of criminal networks and the multi-dimensional elements that perpetuate trafficking, Good Deeds is making a major push to recruit and educate the new millennium’s counter child-trafficking advocates.

We have received funding from Americorps (a prestigious, federally funded program); Western Michigan University’s Leadership Fund; and we are currently Queensland University of Technology’s first service-learning partner for the academy’s new service learning initiative.

What is service-learning?

Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.

What is service-learning at Good Deeds?

Presently, Good Deeds International (GDI) Service Learning Program engages university students and faculties seeking to enhance their education and teaching and learning with ‘real world’ experience related to social change.

GDI is founded on the simple premise that charity and compassion are experiences to be cultivated and given. GDI is a nonprofit, charitable organization whose Service Learning Program provides unique opportunities for participants and volunteers to serve marginalized, disadvantaged individuals and communities around the world plagued by child-trafficking. Simultaneously students learn about human rights social justice issues. Students also develop skills in fundraising, advocacy, philanthropy, project management, event planning to name a few.

ImageGDI is based on models of service-learning through which participants can learn about communities that are culturally, politically, economically, and environmentally different from their own. GDI Staff organize and facilitate service-learning projects related to Good Deeds’ programs, campaigns and initiatives based on organizational need. Staff and participants gain valuable experience through contact with diverse social justice issues.
